Fire protection of cold storage

Avoid fire and consequential damage with Inergen

Products kept in cold storage often have considerable value and are subject to strict regulatory requirements in relation to storage and later use. The strict downtime requirements make it even more important to choose the right method of fire protection, as large sums of money are at stake. Should an incident occur, it is important to have a fire protection solution that can quickly detect the fire and extinguish it without causing damage to equipment, people and products. Fire in or close to a cold store could otherwise develop rapidly and cause extensive damage in record time, with major financial consequences as a result. It could also lead to production downtime and major clean-up work after firefighting with foam and water for example. Time is inevitably lost before everything is working normally again.

Inergen gives you peace of mind and ensures effective extinguishing – without consequential damage if a fire occurs.

5 good reasons for using Inergen fire protection

  • Rapid fire detection.

  • Inergen works effectively even at temperatures well below freezing.

  • Inergen allows maximum height utilisation in cold storage facilities.

  • No consequential damage to inventory and goods – quick resumption of operations.

  • A solution that is safe for people – as assessed by the Danish Working Environment Authority and Rigshospitalet.

Avoid costs for cleaning and consequential damage with Inergen

Fire protection of cold stores containing, for example, medicines or foodstuffs places special demands on the chosen extinguishing method. An Inergen system is a very safe and effective solution that typically extinguishes fire in a maximum of 40 seconds and prevents later re-ignition.

Inergen works effectively even at temperatures well below freezing, where other extinguishing agents are not suitable. There is often a very dry atmosphere in cold stores with an increased risk of static electricity. Such stores are often insulated on the inside with a foam material, which can be highly flammable. Cold stores are expensive to operate. With an Inergen system in place, you can optimise height utilisation – thereby lowering operating costs – because the Inergen nozzles do not have the same distance requirements as, for example, sprinkler heads.

Inergen, moreover, is safe for both the environment and people, so it represents no danger to any colleagues in the room where it is released.

Quality lies at the core of all components in an Inergen system from Fire Eater, and the solution has obtained all the necessary approvals. And as the only system to use inert gas, the design allows performance testing installation completion. This provides security.

Why use Inergen for firefighting?

Typically extinguishes a fire in just 40 seconds.
No subsequent re-ignition. The fire is completely extinguished.
Harmless to people, inventory and goods.
Prevents all secondary damage.

How Inergen works in relation to cold storage

An Inergen system from Fire Eater uses sensitive detectors that automatically respond to fire and release Inergen via nozzles.

Inergen systems employ ‘3D-extinguishing’. This means that the Inergen, which is released under pressure, rapidly spreads throughout the room – even into the hardest-to-reach places. This makes this extinguishing method extremely effective and suitable for places where space is tight and many valuable products are stored.

Inergen is an easy extinguishing method compared with water or foam. Cleaning up after foam extinguishing, for example, is very costly and it is highly likely that very many of the products will have to be scrapped afterwards.
