Fire protection offshore

Effective firefighting – with no secondary consequences

Fire Eater’s solution is used worldwide – both on land and at sea – and is known for its extreme efficacy and its gentle, environmentally friendly extinguishing method.

Offshore, Inergen fire protection is not just used in the oil and gas industry – for protecting engine rooms and E-houses on extraction, production and treatment installations, for example – but also within the offshore wind turbine industry, to make sure that catastrophic explosive fires do not occur. Among other facilities, the system currently protects offshore wind turbine transformer stations, drilling vessels, platforms, jack-up, FSO1 and FPSO2. In such locations, Inergen may be used to protect an installation’s vital hubs: rooms housing electrical equipment, such as servers, switchboards and intersections, or engine rooms with generator pumps and process equipment.

An Inergen system provides optimal protection and ensures a rapid return to normal operations after an incident.

5 good reasons for using Inergen fire protection

  • Rapid fire detection.

  • Safe for people to stay in the room when the system is activated.

  • Extinguishes fire quickly.

  • No consequential damage to equipment – quick resumption of operations.

  • The system has obtained all the necessary approvals (DNV, ABS, IMO, UL) and can be installed in ATEX zones.

Harmless to equipment, safe for humans

Fire Eater’s Inergen systems are used in a wide range of areas in the offshore industry and extinguish everything from oil fires to fires in electrical installations. Typically it takes just 40 seconds for Inergen to extinguish a fire while simultaneously preventing re-ignition.

Inergen consists only of gases that are found naturally in the atmosphere. The extinguishing method is therefore completely harmless to both equipment and people. This means that clearing-up and cleaning costs can be saved after a system has been activated. Daily operations can thus be resumed immediately after a fire has been extinguished.

Why use Inergen for firefighting?

It extinguishes a fire quickly.
No re-ignition later.
Harmless to humans and equipment.
Ensures rapid resumption of operations following use.

How Inergen works

An Inergen system from Fire Eater responds automatically to fire. The system uses sensitive detectors which send a signal to release Inergen via nozzles located in the ceiling.

The system employs so-called ‘3D-extinguishing’. This means that the gas – released under pressure – spreads throughout the room – even in hard-to-reach places. This makes the extinguishing method extremely effective and suitable for protecting electrical cabinets, control rooms, pump rooms and engine rooms, for example.
