Trosvik Maritime is renowned for its advanced shipbuilding and innovative approach to the future of maritime solutions. With the Reach Remote vessels BN 219 and BN 220, developed in collaboration with Reach Subsea, they are setting new standards for remote-controlled and unmanned ships.
However, with groundbreaking ship designs come new challenges, especially in fire protection. Since the Reach Remote vessels operate without crew on board, it is crucial to have a fully automated, highly reliable, and environmentally friendly fire suppression system that can handle any fire risk without human intervention.

To protect the critical areas on board, we installed an INERGEN® zone-based fire suppression system, ensuring effective and gentle fire extinguishing.
The system covers four zones:
The system is designed with two independent INERGEN® cylinder banks, enabling a two-shot fire suppression process. Each cylinder bank is dimensioned to cover the largest protected zone (the engine room), and through selector valves, INERGEN® can be distributed to the other zones as needed.
The best technical solution – The INERGEN® system from Fire Eater was the most advanced in terms of safety, flexibility, and integration with the ship’s existing systems.
The INERGEN® system is developed to meet both current and future requirements for unmanned ships.
How the INERGEN® Fire Suppression System Works
Detection
If one of the ship’s smoke or heat detectors is activated, a local alarm is triggered, and ventilation dampers close.
Automatic activation
When two detectors confirm a fire, the INERGEN® system is automatically activated with a 20-second delay, allowing time for evacuation if needed.
Effective fire suppression
INERGEN® is released, reducing the oxygen level to a point where the fire is extinguished but still safe for humans to remain in the area.
Safety and monitoring
The INERGEN® system is continuously monitored via pressure sensors and alarm functions, ensuring optimal performance at all times.
