E. ON’s Kemsley Combined Heat and Power plant (CHP) provides fire safety to critical infrastructure utilizing Inergen Fire Extinguishing systems.
The new high efficient CHP, which replaces the previous sites 30 year old CHP, provides the necessary heat and power to DS Smith Paper Mill. The new facility also delivers a 36,000 tones per year.
Fire protection of vital control & electrical switch rooms, and safety to staff using a clean extinguishing agent is vital for the modern CHP located at Kemsley Mill, near Sittingbourne, Kent and Inergen was the chosen solution of E.ON.
“When we had a fire detected in one of the switchgear rooms the Inergen system activated automatically and extinguished the fire preventing a potentially serious situation. The Inergen system suppressed the fire and did not interfere with any of our electrical equipment inside the room. There was no clean-up which allowed us to continue us with production immediately”.

Fire Eater was chosen by the plants construction contractor Siemens to install Inergen Fire Extinguishing systems to provide fire protection of vital assets and business continuity, should a fire occur in the protected rooms at new CHP. Should the early warning detection confirm a fire within one of the protected zones, the Inergen system will automatically deploy, providing an extinguishing concentration of Inergen in the specific room where the fire occurs. The system can also be activated manually if personnel are in the area at the time. Inergen is a true, clean fire extinguishing agent, leaving no residue or damage to equipment, even at the seat of the fire, with no clean-up needed. This provides a fast return to business for the control and process equipment.
