About Fire Eater

Fire Eater A/S was founded in 1974 by Aage Laursen on the basis of his great enthusiasm and motivation to develop new methods.

Initially, the company operated from the Laursen family home, the company staff was no more than husband, wife and family. Today, a generation later, turnover and the number of employees has grown, and the company has moved to a central location in Hillerød. Fire Eater is today an active player in the global market.

Fire Eater A/S has remained true to the founder’s ambition of developing new methods to prevent fire through innovative thinking, great motivation and enthusiasm.

Important milestones in the history of Fire Eater:

  • 1974

    The begining

    Fire Eater A/S was founded in 1974 by Aage Laursen. As a pilot, Aage knew about halon as a fire extinguisher for aircraft.

    Aage Laursen saw opportunities in marketing halon for the marine industry and he also entered into a collaboration with the English company Fireater, which developed halon systems for rally cars and pleasure boats.

  • 1984

    The discovery of Inergen®

    Fire Eater A/S became the Danish market leader in specialised fire extinguishing with Halon 1301.

    The idea for Inergen® arose following an unsuccessful full-scale test with Halon, which Fire Eater undertook in Iran, where the now well-known disadvantages of using synthetic chemicals became very clear.

    After conducting various tests and making a thorough study of human respiratory physiology, Torbjørn Laursen invented the concept of using inert gases together with a little CO2 for fire-extinguishing – without side effects.

    Patent

    Inergen was patented.

  • 1991 – 2008

    Trademark registration

    The Inergen® trademark was registered in 1991 by Fire Eater.

    Market leader

    Inergen is sold all over the world, and is one of the most widely used fire-extinguishing methods for automatic indoor extinguishing systems.

How Inergen systems work in a data center

The Inergen® fire suppression system is an automated solution designed to swiftly and effectively extinguish fires. It employs an aspiration system, which incorporates highly sensitive fire detection technology capable of identifying fires in their initial stages. Once a fire is detected, Inergen® is promptly released into the room. Reducing the oxygen level just enough to stop combustion, without posing any risk of harm to individuals present.
