Fire protection for museums

Avoid consequential damage when extinguishing with Inergen

After a fire in a museum, repairing the damage may be both expensive and time-consuming, and exhibitions may have to be closed for shorter or longer periods. In a worst case, cultural history and irreplaceable items may be lost to the flames.

The causes of fire vary, from old electrical installations, for example, to a short circuit in the lighting. Fires also occur in connection with major or minor alterations, renovation or other building work.

Fire protection with Inergen provides optimal protection for museums. It is both effective, completely without consequential damage and can be installed discreetly.

5 good reasons to fireproof with Inergen in museums

  • Early detection: Typically extinguishes a fire in less than 40 seconds and can penetrate hidden cavities where fire often spreads

  • Leaves no consequential damage to buildings, fixtures and fittings or valuables

  • Quick reopening for visitors

  • Concealed installation of the system, (bottles can be stored out of sight, nozzles can be hidden in the ceiling) so that it does not detract from the experience of visitors

  • Harmless to humans – Inergen consists of 100% natural gases

Protect your museums from fire and consequential damage

The optimal protection of museums and cultural heritage presupposes a highly effective extinguishing method. It is, however, at least as important to ensure that any fire-fighting operation does not cause consequential damage to exhibitions and museum objects.

With an Inergen system, you get a solution that typically extinguishes a fire within just 40 seconds and prevents re-ignition. You can also save the time and money that would have been spent repairing damage from deluge systems, for example. In other words, you achieve the best possible protection of the building, inventory and museum objects.

Why use Inergen for firefighting?

It extinguishes the fire quickly – typically in just 40 seconds.
No re-ignition later. It extinguishes the fire completely.
Harmless to humans and materials.
Prevents secondary damage.

How Inergen works in museums

Inergen extinguishes fire completely without the use of water or chemicals. When a detector detects a fire, the Inergen is released via a series of nozzles and the oxygen level in the room is sufficiently lowered to extinguish the fire. At the same time, it is safe for persons to remain in the space.

An Inergen system can be installed with great flexibility and discretion, so that it does not detract from the aesthetic expression or the experience of visitors. Nozzles can, for example, be placed under furniture, in walls or ceilings and painted over. Likewise the piping can be kept completely out of sight and the cylinder battery placed in a room not intended for exhibitions of display.
