The reason why this particular church is so important to the residents of Magerøya dates back to the Second World War. At the end of the Second World War, the German occupying forces withdrew from Finnmark and used “scorched earth tactics” to prevent Soviet forces from taking advantage of resources in the area. So it was a sad sight that greeted the evacuated residents when they returned to the island in the summer of 1945.
“It was possible to integrate the Inergen® system into the building in such an unobtrusive way that the integrity of the church space and the particular aesthetics of the building were not compromised.
Everything had been burnt to the ground except the old church building. But the sight of the undamaged church gave the residents hope and encouragement. While the island’s housing was under reconstruction, the church was used e.g. for accommodation, storage and a kitchen.
After a thorough search of the market, Nordkapp Municipality chose Fire Eater to provide fire protection for Honningsvåg Church. The choice of Fire Eater was primarily due to two factors. Firstly, the system’s sensors detect a fire and activate the system so quickly that minimal damage will be incurred should an accident occur.
Secondly, it was possible to integrate the Inergen system into the building in such an unobtrusive way that the integrity of the church space and the particular aesthetics of the building were not compromised.
